Custom Denim Sashiko - $35 USD / Hour
Sashiko is a Japanese form of textile repair that is both functional and decorative. Repeated stitching creates patterns that provide visual allure and reinforcement to damaged garments. While sashiko can be used purely for decoration, I prefer to use it for its intended original purpose - that is, as a repair to damaged fabric.
Sashiko can be done on any textile, but I specialize in sashiko for denim. Blue jeans, overalls, and denim jackets are all excellent candidates for this service. Even large areas can be repaired relatively quickly with a grid of simple running stitches. More varied and ornate designs require more time to do well.
Please note while I am happy for customer input - such as use of color, or preference for a simple grid versus geometric shapes, a single repeated design or a collection of patterns - I prefer the artistic freedom to create my own designs as I go. If you have a set vision in mind - particularly an elaborate one (Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ say) - then you might do better to take one of my sashiko classes :)
How to get a quote:
send a photograph of the damaged denim
describe what you would like to see (patches on the inside vs. the outside, cover the damage or keep it visible, color choice of thread, a preference for a simple stitching based on a grid - the most cost effective - or something more varied and elaborate, etcetera)
No repair is too small, but I charge a minimum of one hour of service, at $35 USD / hour. Payment via Venmo or cash. Customer covers shipping, to be included in final charge.
Please use the contact page to get in touch to discuss what you’re hoping for. Turn around time is typically within one month. I am unable to accommodate rush orders. Please plan accordingly.
Note: At this time custom orders are suspended as I am on sabbatical for professional development. This note will be removed when I am ready to accept orders again :)
